Are you aware that you can protect your Facebook account from hackers? In recent years, there has been numerous reports and complaints from Facebook users who lost their accounts to hackers. What these hackers do is lure you with attractive offers into visiting phishing links that are aimed at obtaining your Facebook number and password before they log you out and then change the password and phone number in the acct to prevent you from gaining access again.
It has happened to me before, I was just surfing on Facebook as usual and a certain lady messaged me, she said she was in a form of beauty contest that I should support her by voting for her. As a good fellow, I clicked on the link she sent and immediately entered my Facebook details to vote for her but the site returned a 404 error after I entered my details. Fast forward to a couple of minutes later, I was logged out of my account, I rushed to login again, I was told that my Facebook password was changed and after further trials, they said the number was not linked to any account.

It dawned on me that my 5-year-old facebook account had been hacked, but as a techie, I rushed to my email. Luckily for me, I entered my Gmail address while creating the acct and Facebook had already sent me a message that my Facebook password and phone number was changed and gave me a warning link to click if I didn’t do it myself. I clicked the link and answered some basic questions and the acct was recovered. I now logged in again and rained insults on the hacker.
So in today’s article, I am going to be showing you how to strengthen your Facebook account by adding email address to it. So that when a hacker gets hold of your password, he or she won’t find it easy taking over your account.
How to Protect Your Facebook Account From Hackers
First of all, log into your Facebook account via the application and click on the three lines at the top right corner to access the settings page. Below is a screenshot.
After clicking on that settings icon, you will be shown a new page, just select personal information.
On the personal information page, you will see an option to update your name and contact information i.e. your number, email address(s)
Simply click on the contact information option and enter your working email address if you have not previously added any. This is one mistake most of us make while creating Facebook accounts. It is very important for you to add an email address because it can not be removed easily unlike phone numbers.
So just add your working email address and verify the otp that will be sent to it. Then make it your primary email address and kiss goodbye to unnecessary and easy hacking of your Facebook account because any attempt will be forwarded to your mailbox for you to either alert that you didn’t do it or give a go-ahead. That’s how best to strengthen your Facebook account to prevent hackers from having a smooth ride.
